Trends come and go but hypocrisy is forever

It’s the twenty-first century, the age of the internet when every drop of knowledge that the world has to offer is right at our fingertips. We have so much information available to us so easily that, at this point, it seems unacceptable for one to claim ignorance regarding any space. If you are not educated on a certain topic, it’s not for want of access to information but rather a lack of effort. Of course, these expectations are held for the educated section of society.

With this knowledge came understanding and empathy, which was further amplified by social media. It allowing us an outlet for our emotions and opinions. You’re passionate about something? Share a story about it. Do you like your outfit? Post a picture in it. You’re having a bad day? Start a thread to rant about it. As it integrated itself into our lives, it created filtered life for us to share with the world. It didn’t matter who you are, online you could be anyone you chose to be. This brought with it numerous online subcultures and niches. You could be that angsty e-boy/girl, the pseudo-intellectual, the soft boy/girl, the woke one, you name it and there’s a space for you. Inclusion and acceptance became the norm( we say that setting aside the mindless trolls, of course).

As time passed social media became a space that went beyond just expressing baseline thoughts and emotions as it created leaders with a large influence over the masses. These influencers came to be held to the same standards as celebrities. In that respect, they came to be held just as accountable for their actions, having to face the jury that is their followers. Now, as always there are terrible atrocities being committed across the globe and, as it has always been, there are opposing groups for and against it. With the influence these few individuals have over the masses, their opinions have come to hold more weight than others, drawing to it more scrutiny. By commenting on issues, they can, in a split second, come under fire by thousands and, on the other hand by remaining silent, draw the same attention from the opposition groups.

Now, this sense of justice has trickled down to the common social media user. You sat in India and commented on the BLM movement but had no comments for the happenings within our very own country? It’s a show of misplaced empathy. Did you share a post about a communal issue faced by one community? Well, what about the numerous other communities you had no thoughts about? You can’t simply stay in the dark on any issue or remain voiceless. You have and platform and must use it, the masses cry. You can’t deactivate your account because the negativity is becoming too much for you to handle, they chant, but in the same breath, they tell you that your mental health is important and you must put yourself first.

If anything the pandemic allowed offered a looking glass into the space that we have built.

The very person who always says that there are two sides to every argument unfriended you because of a clash of opinions. The ones who tell you to care for your mental health, turn around and tell you that there are people worse off than you when you talk about it. While they preach love and forgiveness, they cancel celebrities for things they said during their adolescence. When you look a little closer you can’t help but ask, have we created an open and inclusive space or have we bred a culture of hypocrisy?

Thanks for the suggestions you are sharing on this weblog. Another thing I would like to say is the fact that getting hold of duplicates of your credit report in order to inspect accuracy of each and every detail could be the first activity you have to perform in credit restoration. You are looking to freshen your credit file from harmful details errors that damage your credit score.
