What’s the deal with Twitter and how to make the best use of it?
Someone great (it’s me) once said “Successful campaigns aren’t built on references”, and do you agree or do you agree?Every day, when the sun rises (or even long after it sets…way after working hours), innumerable “unique”, “new”, and “viral” campaign ideas get rejected.
Why? Because they don’t have a reference to support them.
How do we create something new that has been done before?
Not just with agencies, it has now become common practice to steal take inspiration from trends that have been done before, tweets that have gone viral before, or jokes that have been cracked before.
One such platform where you’ll come across unoriginal content is Twitter.
Day in and day out, we see tweets that make us lose faith in humanity… okay, maybe that’s excessive. We see tweets that we’ve seen before, read before, or heard before.
Does it ever happen that you’re scrolling through Twitter and you suddenly have a deja-vu moment? Well, keep scrolling. Chances are you just saw a copied tweet.
This brings us to the question: How organic is Twitter?
Let’s break it down.
You have a thought. You tweet it to the universe in hopes that people realise your comedic genius.
That’s great, keep trying hard. We believe in you.
But then there are people who steal others’ content, make it seem like their own, and get appreciated for it.
Do you know what it is?
We have only one thing to say to you: Be original!
People prefer Adidas, not Abibas.
So! How CAN you use Twitter to your advantage, organically?
Here are some ways to do it:
- A picture is worth… a thousand followers?
Let’s get started with the basics. The most fool-proof way to leave an impression and have your followers remember you is to have a profile picture. Something that instantly gives your followers an idea of who you are, what tone you’re trying to set and which audience you’re targeting. Along with that, make your bio short, crisp and something that goes with your brand.
Be it fun or professional, your profile really sets the tone for who you are.
- When the activity peaks, send out the tweets!
Want your tweets to reach a wider audience and get more engagement? Take a look at your analytics and identify the days and times that suit you best.
If you tweet on certain days of the week at certain times, users are more likely to see and engage with them.
Identify those times and boost your engagement organically!
- #UseHashtags
Here’s a fun fact! Tweets with hashtags receive 2x more engagement than those without. How? Simple. Hashtags increase your reach and make your tweets visible to an audience that doesn’t follow you.
However, there’s a catch.
Tweets with more than 2 hashtags have the potential to drop your engagement by 17%! Crazy, right?
Use the right kind of hashtags, and remember not to go overboard with them.
Keep in mind these pointers whenever you decide to take yourself, or your brand to Twitter.
Twitter, if done right organically, can take your business to the next level.
Keep hustling and keep tweeting (at the right time), and watch your engagement grow!
