Five things you should never do on social media

Social media is a great tool to create and built a brand identity and to effectively market it to a vast number of people. But, only if it’s used correctly. Slip-ups often happen and that could hamper the brand image. Today, consumers are acutely aware and hence, what you say online, matters. With that in mind here are a few things we think you should never do on social media:

  1. Insensitive comments/content – The rise of social media has been great for a number of issues. People have become more aware and it has proved to be a platform for good. Considering this, it is always great for brands to take a stand on issues and create content based on them. However, the things you say should never be insensitive to anyone involved. Carefully articulating your words and your content is extremely important during these situations.
  2. Ignoring concerns – As we all know with social media, we have direct access to our consumers. This includes their feedback, both good and bad. When a brand/person gets negative comments or feedback, it is important to address it in a timely manner. Ignoring your consumers will further harm the relationship you have with them.
  3. Buying followers – Growing your online community organically may take time but buying followers to speed it up is never a good idea. Numbers don’t define everything. A few consumers who genuinely engage with your brand is far better than many who do not.
  4. Inconsistent brand language – It is extremely crucial for a brand to be consistent both in design and content on social media. Inconsistent language within a platform or between different platforms can send consumers the wrong message and could potentially harm the overall image of the brand. By being consistent not only do you create a lasting impression, but you also create a distinct identity that the consumers can immediately resonate with.
  5. Inconsistent posting – Although it isn’t necessary to post every day, it is recommended that you post 3-4 times every week. Constantly uploading will have more chances of your brand being visible to your audience. If you leave long breaks between posts, you have a higher risk of being forgotten. In the vast clutter that exists on social media, post unique content regularly and you’ll have a social media page that everyone will envy!

There are a whole lot of other things to keep in mind like avoiding grammatical errors, focusing on the target audience, proper usage of ads and hashtags etc. Social media is complex and we at Think Tree Media house can help make it a lot easier for you.
