We get it! Work is hard enough at the office, now imagine having to do it when your pet is giving you puppy eyes, your favourite show has a new season on Netflix and your bed is warm and inviting…but we digress. There’s still work to be done and the deadlines are inching closer.
Now, Digital Marketing has some of the highest numbers of employees working from home on any given day. Hence, here’s us sharing 5 tips that will help you maximise your productivity as you work your way through the quarantine:
Dive in headfirst
Usually, your commute to the office prepares you for the workday. But when you’re working from home, it can be tempting to prolong breakfast or do chores well past the time work starts! The best way to overcome this problem is to dive into work and just start on something. You’ll find it easier to keep going when morning sluggishness doesn’t ruin your motivation.
Play pretend
What does your routine look like when you’re heading to work? Do exactly that when you’re working from home (except the commute of course). Get up when the alarm rings, pour yourself a coffee and wear your grownup clothes. It’ll help you get into work mode easier as opposed to lounging around in yesterday’s dal-stained pyjamas.
Office Space
Designate a room or corner in your home that is exclusively for work. Nope, working on the couch or your bed is not going to cut it. These are spaces where you spend your leisure time and it will put you in a leisure mode. A separate workspace will help you have a semblance of a home/work divide and will also let your family know to not disturb you when in that space.
Social Media Straitjacket
Social Media is INTENDED to be tempting to use, even at the cost of more important and productive work. However, this can be a detriment to your productivity, especially when working from home. While it’s easy to get lost in the world of cat TikToks when you work from home, one simple tip is to sign out of all your social media accounts while working. The pain of having to type all your login details will deter you for a good while.
Take (clear) breaks
The line between work and break can blur when you work from home. The easiest way to solve this problem? Have designated break times so your workday doesn’t seem like one endless chore. Try not to give in to the guilt of working from home keep you from taking a small break to unwind. Instead of simply opening Instagram and scrolling mindlessly, utilize your break to leave your workspace. Take a stroll outside or talk to a family member, or your dog, no judgment!
